Leaner

My little Duncan Boy

We brought him home weighing 10lbs at only 6 weeks old. Now at 3 and a half months old he is taking up the whole back seat in my small Chevy Cobalt Sedan.

He is growing just like you would expect a Great Dane to grow, which makes me very happy!

Something that is characteristic of a Great Dane is that they are leaners. They like to lean against anything, and people in particular. I like to think if he is leaning on you, it means he likes you. What I have learned from Duncan is that Great Danes are sensitive and reserved by nature and tend to get along with people and other animals really well. All you have to do is get them used to people and animals early.

Duncan takes correction well and learns very quickly. He could sit, shake, lay down, stay and roll over at 9 weeks old.

My favorite thing about Duncan is that he wants to be near you. He is a big lap dog!!

I can't help but allow this to remind me that we should not be afraid to lean on others and be close to people. For those of you who know me, you know that I can be a bit stubborn and I like to do things on my own. But I am here to tell you that will work for a while, but ultimately you will come to the end of your rope. Trust me, I am speaking from experience. I am resolving to take today to lean on others and ultimately lean on the the Lord for "His yoke is easy and his burden is light." Will you do the same?

Who knew I could learn something so important from my dog?

What's Been Up

Well, the furniture is all moved in. Below are a few pictures. I have also decided that I need to get a better camera... if I plan on showing pictures for every blog post.

The fireplace that I cleaned out and put candles in!

Front of the Entertainment Center -excuse the mess on my coffee table.
My favorite part is the bottom.

I definitely need to give a big thanks to Tyler and Aaron for getting this big thing up the stairs with no scratches! And to my parents for making sure I have furniture for my house!

I will try to get some good pictures of the headboard and dresser really soon.

Other than that, our office had a pretty big weekend. We went to the Ranger's game in Dallas. Katy our event planner nailed another big event. We got to experience a Toby mac concert, good food, fun fellowship and a Ranger's game!!

Oh ya, I forgot to mention that our picnic area directly overlooked the Toby Mac concert!

View from our seats! The stadium was packed.

Being at the rangers ballpark took me back to some of my childhood memories, especially when I was allowed to get a limonchill. Besides popcorn and coke, a limonchill is probably one of the best ballpark treats out there. Pick one up at your next Rangers game! (sorry for sounding like a commercial) But seriously, they are amazing!!!

After the game, Katy and I went to Six Flags! It was exactly what I needed to let some of my stress go. Imagine two 23 yr old girls screaming on roller coasters and conquering every ride they went on... ya that was us. Needless to say I screamed ALOT and came home with a hoarse voice. It was awesome.

This weekend reminded me to work hard and plan your victories. Col 3:23 Then when you have applied all due diligence to your tasks, allow the Lord to do his work. And remember to treat yourself and play hard at the end of the day!!!

Have a blessed evening!

The Weekenders

Well, yesterday I should have updated you with the weekend, but I didn't get the chance to. On Thursday my wonderful mom came into town. She has meetings here on the weekends for LCU quite a bit, which is nice for me because she comes and stays with me. I am thankful for the time I get to spend with my mom!!

After her meeting on Friday, we went to look for furniture upon my awesome daddy's request. We were in search of a head board and dresser, and I found them both. Plus I got a bonus entertainment center (not pictured) to match!

Dresser
The color looks a little distorted because I took these on a phone, but it is dark mahogany brown with some floral print on the top drawers. There is a pretty nice sized nick in the front that you can see so I got the dresser for 74% off. Now I get to have a little project of fixing that area.

Headboard
This shows the color a little better!

After a long day of shopping we went to Texas Land and Cattle. I love to eat steak! It is the BEST! Plus there is a great deal 2 meals for $25.

On early Saturday morning, the alumni team flew to Houston for an alumni event at the Astro's game! Our event coordinator did an excellent job preparing for this event, despite the hiccups and unexpected bumps along the way. We definitely had to practice flexibility and improvisation.

We all got a chance to reconnect and have some good times with people we do not get to see on a regular basis, and of course, I enjoyed a coke and some popcorn (a pretty regular gametime treat for me).

Back of the field with the cityscape in the background! Oh, and the Astro's won... I would like to think that we were good luck for them!

After tear down and load up from the big event, Katy, her aunt (who let us stay for the weekend -she's great!), and I took a trip to Taco Cabana. Also, one of the best places to eat. Unfortunately, we do not have one in Lubbock so if I am ever in a place that has one, you better believe that is where I want to eat! I will have my regular -two bean and cheese breakfast tacos with some salsa ranch to top it off! Yummy!!!

The next day I had a bit of a whirlwind adventure. I tried to get up and leave Katy's aunt's house with enough time to get to the airport, fill up the rental car and turn it in, and go through security and make it to the gate on time. Whew!! I left 2 hours prior to the time of my flight leaving, which would normally be over planning my victory. I like to get to places early, and the airport is an extreme example. I have missed one flight before in my life, and I vowed to never do that again.

So like I said, I left early, put the destination in my phone maps and began my trip to the airport. As I was driving, I ended up in downtown Houston at the Hobby Performing Arts Center instead of the Houston Hobby Airport. GPS on the iPhone completely failed me. By this time it was 1:00. (Remember, my flight is to leave at 2:00). So of course, I was freaking out. I could feel my hands start shaking as I pulled over to try to recalculate my directions. Meanwhile, downtown Houston was buzzing around me -I was petrified. But this was no time for me to have a breakdown. I had to just suck it up and take care of business.

I got the right directions in my GPS and began on the now 20 minute travel to the airport. Once I arrived at the gas station to fill up my car it was 1:20. I quickly dropped off my rental car, got on the bus and was on my way to the airport.

Now, I know you do this too because I've seen people do it, but I made sure I had my license ready and my phone in my hand before I got off the bus. But I didn't have my phone. It was gone!!! Then I thought, the only place it could be is in the dang rental car!

So.... The sweet bus driver took me back to the rental car place, and sure enough...there it was. By this time I had pretty much come to terms with the fact that I was most likely going to miss my flight. I wanted to cry!
But again, this was no time for a break down!

I ran in, printed off my boarding pass, and went through security. By the way, I would like to give a special shout out to the Houston Hobby TSA! They are good!!!

After frantically power walking through the airport, I made it to Gate 48 at 1:47. God is good, because I know that He is the only reason I made it on the plane in time for departure.
It seems like that completely helpless feeling helps us to remember that God is in control and that we can trust in the Lord's faithfulness to see us through.

I'm Back!

My apologies to everyone for starting a blog and not keeping up with it. It could be because I can't keep up with anything or because I can't find time to blog or perhaps because I do not have a computer with internet at my house. Yes, that's right my computer does not have internet at my house. The only thing that is keeping me sane is my uncanny ability to always be busy doing something and my iPhone of course.

There has been a lot that has been going on in my life since the last time I blogged. With work I was extra busy planning a two career fairs and an etiquette dinner. I had lots of help from my great friend and coworker, Katy. Here are some pictures of those events.

In my job it is my responsiblity to be sure we are acting as a resource for graduates of the University. These are just some of the ways we try to help our grads find jobs.

Also, I got a GREAT Dane puppy. His name is Duncan. Tyler and I decided that this name was a perfect beacuse he is named in honor of Tyler's new basketball coach. We have lots of respect for that man. He encourages people around him to live everyday with intent and to work hard at achieving your goals.

Col 3:23 "Whatever you do work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men."

Here are some pictures of Duncan the dog and an article about the Coach Duncan. Click Here for Full Story
